ETS reads the device certificate, allowing it to identify the FDSK (Factory Default Setup Key) for the relevant KNX serial number. ETS then reads the serial number from the device during initial commissioning, finds the suitable FDSK based on the certificates it read and uses it to encrypt communication with the device. ETS first replaces the FDSK with a “tool key,” the so-called factory key. The FDSK will no longer be valid after this time, and the device can be configured only using the valid tool key. The current tool key can then be found in the security report.
